Private Sector Development

ACET’s Private Sector Development (PSD) unit has been designed to drive an inclusive economic transformation by engaging the private sector with direct impactful support anchored in sound research and analytics that provide both strategic and practical direction towards developing a sustainable and competitive private sector. The main goal of the PSD unit is to support the continent’s growing—and highly influential—private sector in driving economic transformation.

ACET’s private sector engagement is designed, at the macro-level, to promote evidence-informed private-sector friendly public policy and regulations, and to provide direction and coordination to strengthen the SME ecosystem; and at the micro level, through incubator and accelerator projects, to assist SMEs in becoming investment-ready and support them to integrate into the regional and global supply value chains.

The PSD program is being implemented with support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD). Our aim is to support private sector growth and development in the G20 Compact with Africa countries, focusing on:

  • Promoting the development of Sustainable Export Processing Zones
  • Supporting the integration of local content SMEs into the global supply value chains of large enterprises
  • Providing advisory services to private sector business to build management capacity and strengthen economic development strategies

PSD Program Structure

The ACET PSD unit has three main components, which drive all engagements that provide direct support to the private sector and also engage government and other stakeholders to influence policy to ensure the economic transformation of partner countries.

Local Content-SME Support and Development

We make SMEs investment-ready and support them to integrate into global value chains. We do this through incubators where new businesses are created, and accelerator programs where existing businesses are given technical and managerial support.

Advisory Services and Support

We work with key country and continental partners to provide advisory services and technical support for identified private sector players.
