Event Overview
The Private Sector Development (PSD) Unit of ACET is hosting a validation workshop on Tuesday October 19, 2021 on the Developmental activities and impacts of National Development Banks in Rwanda.

The event brings together government officials, civil society organizations, policymakers, and industry representatives to discuss and validate the findings in the initial draft of the Political Economy of National Development Banks, the case of Rwanda. The event also seeks to prompt a conversation around the topic of supporting the developmental activities of national development banks in Rwanda.

The validation workshop will facilitate an open conversation on the following questions:

  1. Political influence: What is the relationship between the banks and the national government, and how have governance structures integrated, or insulated, the banks from political influence, both positively and negatively?
  2. Operations and performance: How have the banks’ mandates and operations evolved over the past 5 – 10 years? What has been the role of political relationships or influence in driving the banks’ records of performance?
  3. Enabling environment: how has the wider economic and institutional context supported or frustrated the banks’ ability to fulfil their mandate? How have the banks fared in shaping and achieving their stated goals?

The insights and observations gathered from the discussions will be used to improve and finalize ACET’s ongoing research on National Development Banks in Rwanda.
