Background

ACET has over the years been committed to building a dynamic and robust communications team given the critical importance of communications to the work that we do. Advocacy, communications, and engagement are key pillars of ACET’s work as we broaden our influence and interaction around Africa’s economic transformation. ACET is seeking an experienced communications professional to temporarily fill the role of Communications Manager while the incumbent colleague is on leave. The role will be a full-time, short-term position.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Director for Communications.

Specifically, the successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with Comms Director and team to develop ACET’s communications strategy
  • Assist the Comms Director in the development and implementation of the communications strategy for the Compact for Ghana
  • Help organise ACET’s quarterly African Transformation Briefings for journalists in Africa
  • Work with team to manage communications work across the organisation
  • Build ACET’s pan-African media contact database; help expand relationships with media across Africa
  • Support social media team to engage audiences across traditional and new media
  • Manage media inquiries and interview requests
  • Monitor and analyse output effectiveness and reach at regular intervals.
  • Seek and evaluate opportunities for partnerships on an on-going basis
  • Maintain a keen understanding of media industry trends and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them
  • Advise and work with different sections within ACET on their communications needs and objectives
  • Any other communications support as may be required by the Director of Communications

Candidate Profile

The preferred candidate will have an advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Science or related field and at least five years’ work experience working in the development, international development, communications, think tank/policy institute space.

Timing

The consultant will be contracted for a period of 4 months, commencing February 21st to June 17th, 2022.

Engagement with ACET

The engagement with ACET during this project will be under the overall leadership of ACET’s Director of Communication, Maura K. Leary. The consultant will work with ACET’s core communications team.

Fees and payment schedule

Payment schedule will be specified in the contract and be commensurate with experience.
