Transformation Fellow (Gender)

The African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) is one of the pre-eminent organizations in the world focused on advancing African solutions to African transformation challenges. Driven by a commitment to support governments address the policy and institutional barriers that hamper sustained economic growth on the continent, ACET was founded in 2008 with the support of national governments alongside major multilateral, bilateral donors and foundations.  ACET is an economic policy institute that provides research, policy advice, and institutional strengthening for African countries to develop their economies, reduce poverty, and improve livelihoods. ACET helps deliver African economic transformation, defined as growth with DEPTH – through a unique, integrated approach. Growth with DEPTH is a framework developed by ACET that turns transformation from a concept into a practical policy agenda. Growth with DEPTH has been used to help Africa’s public and private sectors address the policy and institutional barriers that hamper sustained growth.

Job Summary

The Transformation Fellow will work with the Gender Team on the development and implementation of ACET’s gender equality and economic transformation portfolio.

Roles and Responsibilities

 Specifically, the Transformation Fellow (Gender) will:

  1. Assist with the development, contracting and review of the background technical papers of the African Transformation Report 4 (ATR4)
  2. Assist with the development of the African Transformation Report 4 (ATR4)
  3. Lead the background review and support the development of the female inclusion and finance and economic development scorecard
  4. Provide support to research colleagues working on Country Economic Transformation Outlooks (CETOs) to ensure the analysis has a robust gender lens
  5. Support the gender team on the mainstreaming of gender across the ACET portfolio
  6. Develop and publish reports/blogs etc. on ACET’s gender and economic transformation portfolio
  7. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time in support of ACET’s mission.

 

Education and Experience

  • Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Economics, or a related field
  • A minimum of two (2) years post grad or relevant professional experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in gender and social inclusion analysis approaches
  • Strong technical and quantitative skills, knowledge of statistical and econometric techniques and their use in economic analysis
  • Familiarity with field operations and survey data methodologies
  • Ability to produce well written reports demonstrating excellent analytical ability and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills including the ability to tailor it to various audiences
  • Good leadership abilities and demonstrated track record of working in a team
  • Knowledge of French would be an advantage

Personal

  • Keen interest to work in the economic policy space
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels and from different cultures
  • Ability to work under pressure to deliver on time with attention to detail and accuracy
