About ACET

The African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) is an economic policy institute supporting Africa’s long-term growth through transformation. We produce research, offer policy advice, and galvanize action for African countries to develop their economies, reduce poverty, and improve livelihoods for all their people. We are the pre-eminent African organization advancing African solutions to African challenges.

Background of the African Transformation Report:

The African Transformation Report (ATR) is one of ACET’s three flagship products. It is produced every three years to lay out pathways and practical frameworks to support African economic transformation. There have been three ATRs to date –

  • Growth with DEPTH, (ACET, 2014) broke new ground by defining African transformation in empirical terms and highlighted four drivers to accelerate transformation for African countries to be tailored to their national contexts.
  • Agriculture Powering Africa’s Economic Transformation, (ACET, 2017) laid out a blueprint for sectoral transformation in agriculture, one of the key pathways identified in Growth with DEPTH. It introduced gender as a cross-cutting issue. This report earned ACET the 2018 Prospect Think Tank Award.
  • Integrating to Transform, (ACET, 2021) focused on the catalytic effect regional integration may have if deployed to solve shared challenges and to harness shared opportunities.

ATRs are analytically robust reports aimed at both technical and non-technical users.
