Job Title Economist
Reporting Line The position will report to the Senior Economist
Location Accra/International remote location


Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Economist, the position holder will conduct research, prepare reports, and formulate plans to address economic problems related to the production and distribution of goods and services, or monetary and fiscal policy. The Economist will collect and process economic and statistical data using sampling techniques and econometric methods.

Roles and Responsibilities

Specifically, the Economist will:

  • Undertake research and analytical work on economic issues, trends and policies
  • Gather, cleanse data and create databases for on-going and custom research projects and consulting engagements
  • Review and analyze data to prepare reports and stay abreast on emerging economic issues globally and regionally
  • Share technical knowledge and identify, analyze, and disseminate best practices to key stakeholders.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist with larger projects
  • Develop client presentations and other written deliverables
  • Serve as a spokesperson for ACET on economic issues to external parties and governments
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time in support of ACET’s mission
The Talented Individual


  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in economics or statistics
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant and broad professional experience
  • Experience as an economic or research analyst will be an advantage

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of macroeconomics, able to utilize conceptual frameworks to communicate complex ideas, and be comfortable in navigating around the different sectors of an economy.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills and ability to use analysis to drive policy formulation and advisory. Proficiency in the use of analytical, statistical, and econometric software packages such as STATA, Eviews, R, and SAS as well as Microsoft office suite
  • A self-starter who can work independently with minimal support, paying close attention to detail and bearing independent responsibility for data accuracy.
  • Good leadership skills and ability to work and think through problems independently and with a team including multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Good project management skills and ability to manage budgets to ensure they remain affordable.
  • Ability to work under pressure to deliver on time with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English. Good command of French will be an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective at working in a team
