TLP moves to develop coordinated approach to Africa’s challenges

March 1, 2020

February 27, Addis Ababa – The second meeting of the Transformation Leadership Panel (TLP), an initiative of the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) in Addis Ababa worked on developing a coordinated approach to addressing Africa’s urgent economic challenges.

“The TLP was formed because we saw a gap in the way some increasingly urgent issues are being addressed in Africa, particularly in relation to the long-term viability of economic transformation strategies. We believe that heightened leadership is the key to understanding the full scope of these challenges and addressing them in ways that will lead to a more secure future for Africa.”

The meeting followed the inaugural meeting of the panel in Accra, Ghana in July 2019, and built on the discussions and consensus reached in Accra.

Dr Amoako said: “We want to energize leaders in the public and private sectors but also broaden the definition of leadership at the same time. Economic transformation is a long-term process that requires close collaboration and leadership at all levels, from local policymakers to heads of state, to succeed. We see the TLP as a mechanism for sustained and coordinated leadership engagement.”

The meeting was hosted by the Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa.  Vera Songwe, ECA Executive Secretary, is a member of the TLP. Other panel members attending the meeting include Acha Leke, Chair, Africa Region, McKinsey & Company, Ann Cotton OBE, Founder and Trustee, Camfed International,  Dolika Banda, Non-Executive Director, CDC Group Plc, Gayle Smith, President and CEO, One Campaign, Ndidi Nwuneli, Founder, Leap Africa, Reeta Roy, President & CEO, The MasterCard Foundation and Stefano Manservisi, former Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO).

“Through the TLP, we hope to build consensus among members for shared goals and increased institutional collaboration across Africa,” he concluded.
