Africa faces three critical climate issues: the devastating cost of inaction, the inadequacy of adaptation financing, and the urgent need for a just transition.
These were the topics discussed at the second African Transformation Briefing on climate change, led by ACET Senior Fellow Prof. John Asafu-Adjaye. Asafu-Adjaye presented evidence of Africa’s financing gaps, explained the challenges of accessing climate finance, and outlined what needs to change on the part of both the funders and African countries to increase the flow of climate finance to the region. To ensure these issues are all addressed, COP27, to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh this year, needs to be Africa’s COP.
