Overview
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which came into effect in early 2021, gives new impetus to African integration and offers a pathway for accelerated transformation. The AfCFTA should help countries boost growth, diversify their exports beyond unprocessed commodities, and attract more foreign and domestic investment. Greater regional collaboration – especially through the delivery of regional public goods such as transport corridors and digital connectivity – will help remove barriers that have slowed progress in the past.
We recognize that national challenges require regional solutions. Building on the findings from the African Transformation Report, Integrating to Transform, we enable collaboration for regional public goods at the national and regional levels, by supporting access to policy analysis, intercountry dialogues, coordination, and implementation for regional and continental agencies. We help align national policies and regulations of supported countries with regional and continental protocols and treaties, with a focus on labor mobility, infrastructure, and the digital economy.
