Roundtable on “Exploring Opportunities for domestication of the AfCFTA Protocols to drive trade and investment in Africa.”

The African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) is hosting an event focusing on the domestication of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocols to stimulate trade and investment across the continent. African economies, despite progress, continue to face fragmentation in their trade efforts. ACET recognizes that the AfCFTA presents an opportunity for integration, but successful implementation hinges on effective domestication of protocols. This roundtable dialogue aims to assess the status of domestication efforts, specifically in relation to investment and services, with a focus on free movement of persons and labor mobility. Diving into legal, regulatory, and operational aspects, the discussion will delve into the effectiveness of the AfCFTA protocols’ domestication. By scrutinizing challenges, identifying support needs, and strategizing ways to enhance implementation, the dialogue intends to pave the way for smoother trade and investment operations within and among African countries. The event will bring together key stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, academia, civil society, and the private sector, in a collaborative effort to explore actionable policies and strategies.
