On February 15th, the Ghana Compact, in partnership with the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) will host a technical consultation on national development planning at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Formulated by Dr. K.Y. Amoako – Founder and President of the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) – in collaboration with seven prominent policy institutes, the Compact for Political and Economic Transformation (Ghana Compact) is an initiative focused on setting a vision for our nation, outlining collectively agreed solutions for the country’s biggest challenges, and identifying targets for tracking progress towards the agreed vision.
Representatives from ministry agencies, civil society organizations, MMDAs, and the private sector will attend the workshop and discuss challenges regarding Ghana’s national development planning over the past 30 years.
Mr. Suman Bery, Vice Chair of the Indian Planning Commission (NITI Aayog), and Dr. Julius Muia, former Principal Secretary at the Kenyan National Treasury and former Principal Secretary in the Kenyan State Department for Planning, will share their perspectives and insights on development planning based on their countries’ experiences.
During the event, the participants will discuss three key issues: the discontinuity in planning and inconsistencies in policies and policy formulation, the disconnect between political party manifestos and long-term development plans produced by the NDPC, and the role of the NDPC as the apex institution constitutionally mandated to produce, monitor, and evaluate the implementation of long-term national development plans.
This consultation intends to spark a national dialogue to reach a consensus on formulating and implementing a long-term development framework and vision for Ghana’s economic and political transformation.
