Africa’s Cotton Agroprocessing Opportunity

August 5, 2014
Cotton, one of the world’s most traded commodities, is produced in several African countries. Its processing can result in outputs with many uses, but by far the most common is in apparel manufacture. Several countries, such as those in East Asia, have used the export of apparel products as a major pathway of economic growth and increased industrialization.

This report seeks to identify how African countries can increase the value they capture from this commodity, with a focus on how they can access higher value-added parts of the value chain.
